If you know anything at all about the Turner's its that there is a shared passion for food among all of us. One of our very favorite things to do is search out all of the best local food. In fact, we love food so much that it was one of our inspiring factors behind writing a blog. I get about 3 texts a week from friends asking where they should go eat (and its my favorite thing ever to be asked.) So here it goes: Our first food blog and its about one of my personal favorites and an all American special: The Hamburger. We've chosen 5 of our local favorites and here they are.
5. Troll Under the Bridge
Not only is the Troll pub a whimsically unique location and ambiance, they also serve a great burger. My personal favorite is the beer cheese burger. Its a perfectly cooked burger served on a pretzel bun and then smothered in beer cheese and onion straws. Troll under the bridge is also located near the YUM center and KY center for the arts so this would be a perfect for a pre-show dinner.
4. Oskar's
Oskar's is a slider bar in Louisville and serves a very basic miniature cheeseburger but sometimes simple is all you need when you are very good at making something. Oskar's knows what they're doing with burgers and for just $3 you can try for yourself! (Also, do yourself a favor and order the fries and the smoked ketchup-yum)
3. Mussel and Burger Bar
If you live in Louisville and have never been to this restaurant you need to go like yesterday. And although I typically order the mussels there, their burgers are equally amazing. You won't be disappointed with any of their burgers, but my personal fave is the B.B.B burger. It has caramelized onions, aged white cheddar cheese, maple syrup aioli, and maple syrup glazed pork belly, and the best part a fried egg. This burger pretty much sells itself.
2. Grind
Here we go, another breakfast burger. There's one thing about this breakfast burger that sets it apart and it is its habanero jam. DON'T YOU DARE ASK FOR THIS BURGER WITHOUT IT. With just 3 ingredients that top this burger, you know they're good. Brie (I mean c'mon), bacon, and the jam of the gods (previously gushed over habanero jam.) It's a beautiful burger and has definitely earned it's #2 spot.
1. Game
There are so many reasons that this burger made my number one spot but the main one is that this burger is truly unlike any burger I have ever had. My favorite is the dry aged beef burger. It comes on a brioche bun with dry aged ground beef topped with greens, tomato, blue cheese and bone marrow aioli. I personally am not a fan of blue cheese so I replaced the blue cheese with goats cheese. This burger is unlike any other and truly deserving of my number 1 spot. (order a side of truffle fries while you're at it)
So if you're in the mood for this American classic, these spots are worth a look at. Enjoy!!!
